Job Summary
Relief / On‑Call DSPs provide essential support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, promoting independence, safety, community inclusion, and personal well‑being. This flexible role fills staffing needs across residential programs and ensures high‑quality, person‑centered support.
Responsibilities
Support & Daily Living
- Assist individuals with routines, personal care, safety, and maintaining a comfortable home environment
- Encourage independence, decision‑making, and community participation
- Promote positive relationships and inclusive activities aligned with personal interests and culture.
Professional Conduct & Communication
- Communicate respectfully and in each individual’s primary language
- Share relevant information with coworkers, supervisors, and families
- Treat each person with dignity and act as a positive role model.
Health, Safety & Documentation
- Follow emergency procedures, safety plans, and AOD protocols
- Complete required documentation, including logs, incident reports, and ISP data
- Maintain certifications and attend required trainings (CPR, First Aid, Human Rights, etc.)
- Support medication administration per MAP guidelines (if certified)
- Ensure vehicle logs are accurate and report concerns promptly.
Team Contribution
- Attend staff meetings and supervision
- Follow WCI policies and perform additional duties as assigned
- Leave the home clean, secure, and organized at shift’s end.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year of experience in ID/DD or human services preferred
- Experience with behavioral needs, ASL fluency, or health‑related supports may be required at some homes.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving records
- First Aid/CPR certification required
- MAP certification preferred.
- Proactive Approaches to Behavioral Challenges (PABC) certification or ability to pass PABC training to obtain certification.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods throughout the day, including stairs. Must be able to physically complete the evacuation plan while supporting Individuals.
- Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 lbs (e.g., files, supplies, groceries)
- Occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs (e.g., assisting with transfers, repositioning individuals, crisis prevention, pushing individuals in wheelchairs, using Hoyer lifts)
- Ability to provide hands-on support for personal care as needed per individual support plans (e.g., showering, toileting, assistance with eating)
- Ability to perform basic household tasks related to program operations (e.g., meal preparation, laundry, routine household cleaning, snow shoveling)
- Ability to operate or ride in a vehicle; driving is a requirement for most positions and includes driving agency vans, including wheelchair vans, or personal vehicles
Ability to secure wheelchairs and assistive devices as needed
