I’d like to announce the passing of Catherine Hutchinson, an advocate, and activist for the provision of quality home and community-based services for people with brain injuries. She was the lead plaintiff in the unprecedented lawsuit, Hutchinson v Patrick. This was a landmark case that reached a settlement to enable individuals with brain injuries to move out of nursing homes into the community.
Catherine was able to move into a home with four other women who also benefited from the settlement.
WCI extends sincere condolences to the Hutchinson family and friends. We thank her for her advocacy.
WCI also thanks Ms. Hutchinson for her work as WCI would not have been able to create the wonderful home for the five men who recently all moved from Nursing Homes to their new home in Maynard. We welcome them to WCI and to their new home in which they were able to transition in mid-August 2020.
